The wine
Terra is a Veneto Rosso IGT produced with Marzemino Nero, a local grape variety from Northern Italy, and Merlot, an international variety that nevertheless shows Contrà Soarda's strong terroir character.
The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard site in Bassano del Grappa, only 40 miles away from Venice, where the vines grow on steep slopes, old volcanic soil and are constantly exposed to the sun from sunrise to sunset. At 300m above sea level, and nestled in the foothills of the surrounding mountains, it's this microclimate that gives the wine such a distinctive taste – spicy, fresh and well-structured. Pairs well with the environment.
The climate action
To create Terra, we analysed Contrà Soarda's winemaking process from grape to glass to produce a truly sustainable wine that combats climate change. The launch of Terra follows a rigorous and verified assessment of Contrà Soarda's entire operations (including their supply chain) to understand, measure, reduce and offset twice the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its production. The bottle itself is as sustainable as can be – from lightweight recycled glass and a natural biodegradable cork, down to the truly unique bottle seal made from natural beeswax from the vineyard's estate.
More details on Terra, what it means to be carbon negative, the incredible projects we support, and our approach to sustainable winemaking can be found in our brochure here.
