As imperfect environmentalists, we’re all about finding creative ways to combat climate change, reduce our impact on the planet and have a bit of fun along the way.

Until aviation sorts itself out, one of the best ways to do this is to use alternatives to flying when you can, so we thought we’d have a pop at an elaborate journey to show you the highs, the lows and what this means for your carbon footprint.

NET ZERO FOR BUSINESSES - what it means and what you should do

Net Zero means that the greenhouse gases that you produce (carbon dioxide, methane and the like) do not exceed the amount you remove from the atmosphere. This means that your business makes no ‘net’ contribution to climate change, because all your emissions have either been reduced or compensated for elsewhere.

RENEWABLE ENERGY - how to pick a genuinely green electricity tariff

The provider you go with is a really important question, but actually quite a complicated one because there's a lot of confusion about suppliers/tariffs that are genuinely green, and those that are simply marketed as green (otherwise known as 'greenwashing'). Below is some context on this distinction and then a couple of recommendations of suppliers to look at.

1. Firstly, it's not strictly possible to get your energy supply from the National Grid and for that supply to be 100% renewable. The only way to ensure that only 100% renewable energy is supplied to your business is to connect directly from a generator (e.g. install your own solar panels).

To read about climate change at the moment is to be bombarded by a mixture of virtue signalling and semi-incomprehensible terms that sound like the name of your middle-aged science teacher’s woeful rock band: ‘carbon neutral’, ‘carbon negative’ and ‘climate positive’.

At the centre of this is a debate about carbon offsetting and its effectiveness. On one side it’s the devil, a guilt-absolving way to do nothing and keep living your life at the expense of the planet. On the other, it’s a magical solution to save the planet without lifting a finger. So which side is right?
